A Catawba County man was sentenced to no less than 19 years behind bars for producing and possessing child pornography and sex offenses against a child.
Bruce Leroy Donald, now 42, of Newton, was initially prosecuted and convicted by the federal government for production of child pornography, one count of felony offense involving a minor committed by a registered sex offender and possession of child pornography back in November 2012. He was sentenced to 10 years.

The Catawba County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted Donald in connection with the same incident. Donald took a plea deal on the 27 charges with a sentence of no less than 230 months, and no more than 285 months. This sentence will be served concurrently to the federal sentence.
Donald took a plea on the charges of felony statutory sex offense of a person 13, 14, or 15 years of age, felony second-degree forcible sex offense, 10 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, five counts of felony breaking and entering, seven counts of felony larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Sources tell NBCÂ Charlotte Donald and a friend were stealing lawn equipment for their lawn care business. That’s what initially led Newton Police to execute a search warrant at Donald’s home. Further, we’re told that’s when one of the officers noticed a pornographic image that depicted a child in plain view. A second search warrant of the home was executed at Donald’s home related to child pornography.
Police told NBCÂ Charlotte back in 2012 that Donald possessed hundreds of child pornographic images. One of the victims in the photos was identified by police and interviewed, leading officers to file child sex assault-related charges on Donald. Donald photographed the abuse of the boy, authorities say, who was repeatedly sexually assaulted between 2007 and 2008.
At the time of all the offenses, officials say Donald was a registered sex offender.
