Cold Case Arrest Made in 40 Year Old Louisville Homicide Case

A Louisville detective cracked a cold-case more than 40 years old, and a man now faces charges in the death of his stepson.

A grand jury indicted Lawrence Beck, 65, on a murder charge earlier this week. His 20-month-old stepson, Michael Sanders, died in December 1971.

The child’s death was ruled a homicide at the time, but there wasn’t enough evidence to make an arrest. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Diane Arnold says a Louisville Metro Police Department detective worked, “to track down many of the witnesses, to find as much new information as she could, and really to get a doctor to look at how the child died and if the injuries were consistent with what the suspect had said.”

Police arrested Beck in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
