Identity Theft Officers Find 175 Stolen or Forged Bank Cards During Car Stop in CA

A 22-year-old Oakland man was arrested Tuesday after police found him with $10,000 in cash and 175 stolen or forged bank cards, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP officers stopped Jovon Williams at about 9 p.m. for speeding in a 2003 BMW with a broken headlight on Macarthur Boulevard near 73rd Avenue in East Oakland, authorities said.

Officers searched the parolee’s car and found the cash and various debit, credit and gift cards, some with his name and others that belonged to other people, CHP Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said.

Williams did not have a valid license and was on parole for a prior identity theft case, Wilkenfeld said. He was arrested and booked in Oakland’s North County Jail on suspicion of identity theft, forgery and violating his parole.
