Wrongful Death Body Found in Blue Springs, MO Hotel

Police are investigating after a body was discovered inside a Blue Springs hotel room.

Shortly after 7:30 Saturday morning, members of the Blue Springs Police Department were dispatched to the Days Inn, located at 451 NW Jefferson Street, in response to a call regarding “shots fired.”

Once police arrived, they located an individual, who died from an apparent gunshot injury, inside one of the rooms.  The hotel was placed on a lock down for citizen safety while Blue Springs Police searched for the suspect in the area.

Christy Hallock, a guest at the hotel, said she dialed 911.

“A guy comes running down the stairs putting his clothes on saying someone shot in his room,” Hallock said. “He was freaking out.”

Hallock said she was eating breakfast in the hotel dining area when the man came running down the stairs. Then, she and seven others, including some children, hid inside a pantry.

A short time later, officers encountered an individual in the parking lot of the Rancho Grande Cantina restaurant, located at 501 NW Jefferson Street, who was armed with a firearm and threatening suicide.  Several minutes later, a Blue Springs Hostage Negotiator convinced the individual to unarm himself. The man was then taken into police custody.

“He looked a little bit crazy, he was freaking out,” Hallock said. “We were all hiding in the pantry area, he was standing right next to me and then when we all came out he got arrested.”

Sergeant Joe Fanara with the Blue Springs Police Department said it is unknown if the two men were from the area or just passing through.

“The incident was taken under control and the subject did comply with all commands,” Fanara said.

Police also tell FOX 4 it is unknown at this time if the two men knew each other. Police are not yet releasing the name of the victim but say it’s a man in his mid-20s.

The Blue Springs Police Department Special Victims Unit is currently investigating the incident. Charges are pending.
