Arson Investigation Man Tries to Burn Apartment

A man is behind bars after police say he tried to set an apartment on fire by increasing the temperature of several appliances inside.

Police say 22-year-old Michael Collins left four stove burners on high heat, an oven on high heat with the door open and the thermostat at a high temperature.

His arrest warrant states a family member discovered the appliances inside the apartment, which had significant heat damage to it, on Nov. 2.

The building had five people inside, according to police. It’s not clear for how long the heat was left turned up.

Police say Collins was seen removing items from the apartment on Oct. 31.

He was picked up in Boyd County where officers found out he had a warrant out for him in Madison County after he was involved in a two car accident there.

Collins is charged with attempted arson, five counts of wanton endangerment and burglary second degree.
