State Police Trooper Jay Thomas said police looked into the relationship between the Champion family and Riservato, who lived about 20 miles away in Hopkinsville. Thomas says Riservato may have known the family briefly prior to the shooting.

Champion was indicted on three counts of complicity to capital murder and one count of murder.

Champion is also accused of kidnapping his sister before she was killed.
