An 83-year-old man is accused of downloading “a lot” of child pornography from his Akron home, police said.
Charles A. Mellinger of Akron faces five second-degree felony counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving children in Stow Municipal Court.
Mellinger posted 10 percent of a $10,000 bond after his initial appearance Wednesday in Stow Municipal Court. The case is set for a hearing on Monday.

A Tallmadge police detective working with the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force intercepted Mellinger downloading five files of child pornography, according to Tallmadge Police Lt. Ron Williams.
Mellinger downloaded the files on Sept. 22, Sept. 26, Sept. 27, Sept. 28 and Oct. 14, court records say.
Investigators obtained subpoenas and raided Mellinger’s home on Brown Street in Akron on Nov. 20.
Officers seized a desktop computer and three hard drives from the home. Investigators are currently analyzing the hard drives and computer to see exactly what they contain, Williams said.
The files contained videos of children engaged in sex and sex acts with other children and adults, Williams said. The videos lasted between 30 seconds and 15 minutes, according to Williams.
Mellinger admitted to downloading the pornography to investigators, Williams said.
