Accident Reconstruction Two Killed in Jackson County Collision

Two people are dead after a morning crash in southeastern Kentucky.

It happened on Highway 30 in Jackson County near the Laurel County line around 6:30 a.m.

After being shut down for about four hours, that stretch of roadway reopened at about 10:30.

Officials say a truck hauling cattle and a passenger car collided. The one person inside the truck and one person inside the car were killed.

The exact cause of the crash is still being investigated, but some of the officials working the accident said it was probably the worst one they have seen in a couple years.

“When I got on scene, it was apparent that it was a very violent crash. There didn’t seem to be any skid marks in the road that we could see, but as far as what caused this accident, it would just be speculation on my part,” said Greg Hayes, Jackson County emergency management director.

At this time, the names of the victims haven’t been released.
