Wrongful Death Boyle County Woman Charged in Step Granddaughter’s Death Will Not Face Death Penalty

A Boyle County woman charged in the June murder of her step-granddaughter will not face the death penalty if she’s convicted.

Shila Raley entered a not guilty plea in court as the judge decided what Raley’s bond would be. The court also weighed the issue of the death penalty.

Raley’s 3-year-old step-granddaughter died in June of 2014. Police say that Alexa Raley was taken to a Danville hospital after being assaulted.

The coroner says that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the abdomen. Shila Raley was indicted and arrested for murder in December.

Shila Raley’s bond was set at $1 million cash. She is due back in court on February 3.
