Evan Saltzman said Thursday he’s shocked by the second smash-and-grab theft this month at his Cranston store, Saltzman’s Watches and More.
He said he got the call from the alarm company at about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday.
“Smashed a brick through the window and came right in. He was in and out very quick,” said Saltzman, president of the company.
Surveillance video from Saltzman’s security system shows how quickly. The thief comes in, goes right for the good stuff and leaves. Saltzman estimates it took about 30 seconds from start to finish.
The thief got away with six watches from a Versace showcase valued at close to $30,000.
It was the second time this month the store has been hit. About three weeks ago, a thief gained entry by smashing through a different front window.
That time the thief stole about 15 Movado watches, nearly the same value as this heist.
And though it’s still under investigation, Saltzman said he believes it is same culprit.
“It was same MO. It looked like the same person. He was even wearing similar clothes with the black satchel over the same shoulder. I’m confident it was the same person that came back,” Saltzman said.
Saltzman said he’s working on upgrading his security and surveillance system and that he will install shatter-proof glass in the windows.
