When Noah Dewitt graduated from the University of Oregon two years ago, he liked Eugene so much he stayed.
The 24-year-old built a wide circle of bright, loving friends after moving there from Portland, Dewitt’s mother said. Now those friends are helping coordinate a search to find him.
“He loved Eugene so much,” Joan Zivi said. “He had so much there, so much love.”
Dewitt was reported missing Saturday after spending Friday evening with friends at the Heart and Spoon Community living house on West 27th Avenue in Eugene.
Searchers regroup there for dinner every night to discuss any leads and plan for the next day, Zivi said. Dewitt’s sister Rachel, 27, a graduate student in Salt Lake City, has also joined the search.

Friends who last spoke to Dewitt said he was frightened and distressed before leaving the house at around 2 a.m. Saturday, his mother said. “He’s just been sad about the world,” Zivi said.
Dewitt loves art and music, she said. He is passionate about the environment and active in the anti-coal movement.
He graduated from Grant High School in Northeast Portland in 2008, then studied journalism at UO, Zivi said. He was editor-in-chief of Oregon Voice, a campus arts and culture magazine.
Dewitt now works at New Frontier Market, a small local grocery. The store and many other community groups have shared a missing person poster on their social media accounts to spread the word about his disappearance.
His mother said it’s hard to know where he might have gone. Friends are searching his favorite places — and really everywhere, she said.
The Eugene Police Department is also involved and following up on leads. An agency spokesman said there were no new developments Thursday in Dewitt’s disappearance.
Dewitt is about 5-foot-11, 130 pounds and has long dark-brown hair. When he was last seen, Dewitt was wearing a heavy light-brown corduroy coat over a dark-blue shirt and dark-blue plaid fleece pajama pants.
People who see Dewitt or have information on his whereabouts should call police at 541-682-5111.
