A police dog aided officers in their arrest of a man allegedly possessing methamphetamine May 26, according to an Alexander County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Ryan Lewis Craig, 31, of Conover, was charged with one count of trafficking methamphetamine with possession, one count of trafficking methamphetamine with transportation, one count of possession of a controlled substance on jail premises, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count of fail to dim headlamps, according to the news release.

The news release said he was given a $90,000 secured bond.
Alexander County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped the suspect’s car after seeing him fail to dim his headlights and seeing that he was left of center, according to the news release.
Alexander County Sheriff’s Office detective Tim Sims and K9 Mick were called to the car stop to sniff the air for narcotics within the vehicle, according to the news release. Mick indicated that he smelled narcotics in the car, the news release said.
A search of the car resulted in officers finding pills and drug paraphernalia inside, the news release said. The suspect was then arrested.
Officers later found 3.5 ounces of methamphetamine on the suspect after he and the officers arrived at the Alexander County Sheriff’s Narcotics Office, the news release said.
Homeland Security Investigations, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office, and the Taylorsville Police Department will assist the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office in an investigation of the incident, the news release said.
