The arrests came after the mother of a 14-year-old girl went to police in May. Police said in a court affidavit that up to seven girls, many of them under the age of 18, were prostituting out of an apartment in the 3800 block of South Capitol Street SE.

Police said they enlisted the help of the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and uncovered several advertisements placed on a Web site called backpage.com. The affidavit says several photographs of the 14-year-old and other girls were found on the site. The young teen was dressed in her underwear.
The girl told police she got about $200 a day.
Jarnese Harris, 28, was arrested on a warrant Thursday by the Washington Metropolitan Airport Authority Police and charged with sex trafficking in children. She has not yet made an appearance in D.C. Superior Court. No other details of the arrest have been made public.
Police arrested Daraya Marshall, 35, on June 29 and charged him with first-degree child sex abuse, pandering, sex trafficking of children and distribution of marijuana. He is being detained pending a preliminary hearing in D.C. Superior Court on July 16. His attorney, Kia D. Sears with the Public Defender Service, did not return calls seeking comment.
In court documents, police described Harris and Marshall as boyfriend and girlfriend. The police affidavit said detectives found many pictures of adult women and others believed to be underage girls on a cellphone seized from the apartment. The court document said in most cases, men would come to the South Capitol Street apartment for sex on a leather sofa in the living room.
Both suspects were arrested in March during a traffic stop in Frederick County, Md., and charged with possession of marijuana. Online court records show that charges against Harris were not pursued, but those against Marshall remain pending. He was free on $5,000 bail when he was arrested on the District charges.
