In an extreme case of revenge, one Lexington man is left without a car.
On August 3, at the intersection of Winchester Road and Executive, a man and woman flagged the victim down for a ride. When the victim refused, they began to get aggressive with him.
“He told them he wasn’t going to do that,” said Detective Mark Thomas of the Lexington Police Department. “He proceeded to the SSA office. He was scared, trying to get away from the male.”

The woman, who was wearing bright, red shoes, jumped into the victim’s 2002 Chevy Blazer through an unlocked door. Once they arrived at the Social Security Office, she jumped out of the vehicle.
“He went inside the SSA, was inside for about 10 minutes, and when he came back out his car was on fire,” said Thomas.
The cameras on top of the Social Security Office building caught the two people from the encounter running from the victim’s burning SUV.
“That’s just something that is not OK in any circumstances,” said Thomas.
The victim only carried liability insurance on his SUV so he is now out the value of the vehicle and has no way of replacing it.
“That’s exactly what they were doing, was to try and teach this guy a lesson by lighting his car on fire,” said Thomas. “Completely unacceptable and we’re gonna get these people caught.”
Police think someone may be able to recognize the two by the bright, red, tennis shoes they were wearing in the surveillance footage.
