Wrongful Death Two Arrested in Murder of St. Paul, MN Mom

The family of a single-mom gunned down in front of her home says police have arrested two people for her murder.

Sarah Wierstad, 24, was coming home from working at the Alton Memory Care Center in St. Paul around 7 p.m. Sunday. She was shot and killed in front of her home shortly after arriving, according to her parents.

Her murder is the third in St. Paul in a week. Police do not believe its connected to the others. At this time, police are not confirming the arrests in Wierstad’s homicide.

“Her giggle. Her laugh. You would just hear it.” said Julie Zietlow, Wierstad’s mother. “She lived her life on her own terms.”

Wierstad had moved into the duplex home near Beaumont and Bedford Streets in July. Her mother says Wierstad had enrolled in culinary school about a month ago after taking a liking to cooking at Alton.

“She was working nights. She was working days, going to school and taking care of her daughter,” fellow cook Atima Collins said. “That is a lot, you know? She was doing everything she had to do. Just the glow on her face when she walked in. It was a great feeling.”

Wierstad leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter.
