Fraud Investigation Counterfeit Bills Circulating in Georgetown

Georgetown Police are warning the public to be aware of fake $100 bills circulating around Scott County.

At least four stores were targeted by the fake bills. The Taco Bell off South Broadway fell victim to one of bills. Employees told police that a customer paid for food with a fake $100 bill, but none of them caught it until it was too late.

The fake bills have the text “for motion picture use only” written on them.

“With the eye test, there are features on here like the ink. The printing on here will change colors when you turn the bill. That can’t be reproduced and it’s not on this bill and then of course the wording, if you’re just looking at the bill without seeing that it looks like a legitimate $100 bill,” Captain Robert Swanigan told LEX 18’s Patrick Price.

Police say their message to all businesses owners is to check cash, particularly large bills.
