Missing Person Remains Found During Search For Lake County, FL Man

Human remains were found at a Lake Kathryn home Monday as Lake County sheriff’s deputies searched for the home’s owner, Dennis Jones, who has been missing for a month.

Investigators have not determined if the remains are Jones’.

“He is still a missing person,” said Lt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. “Hopefully we will have a clear picture of what took place, soon.”

Deputies responded to the home in the 45000 block of Pennsylvania Street at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday, after a neighbor called, concerned they had not seen Jones for weeks.

When they arrived at the scene, investigators could not locate the man or his truck, so a cadaver dog was brought in. The dog led investigators to the home’s backyard, and after obtaining a search warrant, human remains were found buried there, deputies said.

When asked at the scene, Jones’ neighbors said they were not very close to the man. Some described having a strained relationship with him, but someone was concerned enough to call the Sheriff’s Office when Jones wasn’t seen for a while.

“I’m just wondering what was going on,” said resident Grace McWilliams. “I didn’t know nothing about it until I saw this.”

Neighbors said a woman and her children had been staying at the home and using Jones’ truck for weeks.

The truck was found about a half mile away, parked at a neighbor’s home Sunday night, investigators said.

Deputies did not immediately release any information indicating anyone but Jones had been living at the home.

The medical examiner will be working to determine if the remains found belonged to Jones.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
