Lexington Police spent the morning searching for a missing man who wandered off in bitterly cold temperatures without shoes.
Police were searching for 77-year-old William Henry Cook. Cook lives with his wife at their home on Raleigh Court. When she woke up this morning he was gone.
Cook possibly suffers from dementia and had a stroke last year. According to family members he has difficulty moving and usually relies on a walker.

He was not wearing shoes and was only in long johns, a t-shirt and a blanket. Police were especially concerned for his well beingĀ given the below freezing weather.
Cook was found sitting in his neighbor’s car on Raleigh Court. Albert Chenault came out and noticed Cook in the backseat. He told LEX 18 that he thinks that Cook believed he was in his own vehicle.
“”In this case, I’m glad I did leave the doors unlocked. I wouldn’t want anyone to be out here in this weather but if he had to find a warm spot, I’m glad my door was open for him, he just got right in there and crawled up in there and he was just sitting,” Chenault explained.
Family members are relieved that he was found safe.
“We knew he couldn’t have gone far, because he wasn’t on his walker and he was very unsteady, but to know he was okay, we’re extremely thankful to the Good Lord for keeping him safe,” Alyce Casey, Cook’s niece told Patrick Price.
Cook was taken to the hospital to be checked out but he is expected to be okay.
