Fraud Investigation Attorney General Warns of Warrant Scam

Attorney General Andy Beshear wants Kentuckians to know that if someone named “Sergeant Joe Crews” calls you and tells you that you have a federal warrant issued against you, hang up.

This scam has been affecting several Kentuckians.  Law enforcement officials would not contact Kentucky residents concerning federal warrants and would never ask for money.

It’s just another scam, similar to the IRS and Payday lender scams of recent past, Beshear’s office said.

The AG’s office is asking anyone who receives such a call to hang up and contact its Office of Consumer Protection at (888) 432-9257 or your local law enforcement office.

“In my two weeks of office already I am seeing a large number of attempts by scammers to take Kentuckians’ money,” Beshear said. “Our best defense is to make sure the public is aware of these scams and not falling victim to their claims.”
Never give out personal information to anyone over the phone.
