Wrongful Death Lincoln Co. Man Charged With Attempted Murder of Constable

A Lincoln County man is facing some serious charges after he allegedly attempted to suffocate a constable serving a warrant.

According to a criminal complaint, Travis Hancock was pulled over for expired tags by Constable Delbert Mitchell. When Mitchell ran Hancock through Bluegrass 911, a warrant came back.

Documents say that when Constable Mitchell informed Hancock of the warrant in his name, he began begging him to let him go. That’s when Hancock exited the vehicle and allegedly got into a physical altercation with the Constable.

Constable Mitchell told authorities that Hancock tried to flee. After pulling Hancock down to the ground, Mitchell says the suspect tried to hold his face down in the snow and mud in an attempt to suffocate him. After freeing himself, Mitchell told investigators that Hancock kicked him and gouged his eye with his thumb, causing damage to his cornea.

The documents state that after the assault, Hancock ran back to his vehicle, jumped in it and took off. Another person is said to have been in the vehicle at the time of the assault and the complaint alleges that the passenger never attempted to intervene or call for help.

Officials with the Lincoln County Detention Center, tell LEX 18 that Hancock’s warrant was for failure to pay fines. He would have most likely been out of jail in a few days. He is now charged with attempted murder of a police officer and fleeing and evading.

He will face a judge Monday afternoon.
