The man accused of starting the fire that killed three people in Winchester, including his own son, pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter.
Jackie Hisle was charged after fire ripped through B & P Apartments, sending some people jumping for their lives. It happened around 1:15 a.m. on Friday morning at the complex on Springmist Lane in Winchester.
According to a citation, Hisle admitted to smoking on his oxygen tank while intoxicating, causing the explosion that killed his son, Donald Hisle, and caused the death of two others in the complex.

Hisle also admitted to police that he had been warned not to smoke around the tank, knowing it could cause a fire.
Witnesses said no smoke alarms went off and they awoke to explosions and flames. Six people went to the hospital with broken bones, burns or smoke inhalation and several others were treated on scene.
71-year-old Dixie Everman died after jumping out of a second story window to escape the flames.
“Anybody and everybody that she has ever met will tell you that she was the most caring and sweetest woman that they have ever met,” Everman’s granddaughter Chaela Everman told LEX 18.
29-year-old Tina Reynolds also perished in the fire.
Hisle told the judge he could not afford an attorney. His bond will remain at $1 million. Another preliminary hearing will be scheduled for March 23.
Funeral services for Hisle’s son Donald began at the same time as the arraignment.
