A Random Lake woman is facing identity theft charges after she tried to get credit cards using her friend’s personal information.
48-year-old Christine Murphy faces two counts of felony identity theft.
According to a criminal complaint, Murphy attempted to sign up for multiple credit cards using the name of her victim. The man says Murphy is his ex-sister-in-law who’s been staying with him because she’s down on her luck and didn’t have anywhere else to live.

Police say there multiple attempts to open cards. The first attempt had the cards made out in the victim’s name, but the social security number and phone numbers used on the credit applications belonged to Murphy. The second attempt to fill out those cards used the victim’s name and social security number, but used Murphy’s former address and email and had her listed as an authorized user on the account.
When questioned, police say Murphy told them that she knew why police had come to talk to her. She told officers that she doesn’t remember filling out the applications because she has a medical condition that makes her black out and forget things. She also told officers that her medications make her a different person.
Online court records have not been updated to show Murphy’s scheduled court dates. She faces six years in prison on both of the charges.
