Wrongful Death 15 Year Old Girl Texted Friend After Killing Her Newborn

A 15-year-old girl admitted to killing her newborn baby in a bathroom, according to messages provided to WAVE 3 News by court documents.

Jasmine Wade was visiting her grandmother at KentuckyOne Health’s Frazier Rehab Institute last summer when she gave birth to a baby girl in the bathroom. She told investigators she didn’t know she was pregnant.

Police on Friday released some of the evidence in the case, including graphic text messages Wade allegedly sent to one of her friends.

WARNING: Some of what follows might be disturbing to readers.

“I was in the hospital and my granny had another stroke, so I walked outside I over heated and I’m in the hospital and around 4 this morning I pushed out the baby in the toilet and everything I had to kill it,” one of the text messages read.

“Where is the baby?” her friend asked.

“Right here,” Wade replied. “It’s dead (I don’t know) what to do with it.”

Wade then sent a photo of the baby that accompanied the message.

Her friend then advised her to call police, but Wade didn’t budge.

“No wtf,” she replied. “Its been dead since 4 in the morning I told you I had to kill it!!”

“How did you kill the baby?” her friend asked.

“I (smothered) it,” Wade replied. “Wrapped it up inside the towels tied the trash bag together.”

In an interview with police later that same day, Wade explained she did not know she was pregnant, but went to the bathroom and delivered the baby.

She told police she was in shock and left the baby in the toilet for about 12 minutes before she removed it, wrapped it with towels and rocked it back and forth.

“I picked it up and I put it in my hand and I laid it on some towels in the bathroom by the shower,” Wade told police. “And I was just staring at it and
I just picked it up and I was just talking to it.”

“I didn’t want to be pregnant. It was going to mess up my future,” she said.

Wade then described what happened next.

“Then I wrapped it up and I put it in a yellow bag,” she told police as she began to cry. “I put it in the bag when it was wrapped all the way up like tight,
so it was basically smothered.”

An officer then told Wade her charges.

“You know you’re getting charged with murder,” he said. “You’re getting charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence. There’s nothing I can do, Jasmine.”

“Am I going to jail?” Wade asked.

“Yes,” the officer replied. “I wish it was different. You’re a real sweet girl but you are going to have to live with what you did…I can’t change it.”

“I don’t want to go,” Wade cried. “Why do I have to go?”

Wade is charged with murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. She was arraigned in February and is scheduled to return to court on April 13. Her bond is set at $50,000.
