A woman’s failed attempt to cash a fraudulent check led Coronado police to uncover an apparent fake-check and ID-making operation in a resort hotel room, authorities said Saturday.
The woman tried to cash a $1,900 check at a Bank of America about 2:30 p.m. Friday, Coronado police said. Bank employees refused and called police, who arrived at the bank’s parking garage just in time to block the woman and two male companions from driving out.
Police found drugs and a large amount of cash in the car. The ensuing investigation led police to the trio’s hotel room at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort.

There, investigators found the check and ID-making operation. They also found a gun.
The trio — a 30-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman from National City, and a 29-year-old man from San Diego — was arrested on suspicion of a host of felonies, including conspiracy, identity theft and drug sales.
The woman was also accused of being a felon in possession of a gun.
