Wrongful Death Suspect Arrested in Connection to Wayne Co. Homicide

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department confirms Joseph A. Jones, a person wanted in connection to a Wayne County homicide investigation, has been arrested.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page Jones was taken into custody Saturday morning at a residence off of Tobar Road just east of Monticello. He was arrested on charges of murder, domestic violence, and tampering with physical evidence.

Troopers were looking for Jones after they say a woman’s body was found in a well. That woman was later identified by the Wayne County coroner as 28 year old Rachel Jones. The sheriff’s department confirms she was the wife of Joseph A. Jones.

Authorities started the search for the missing woman at a home near Brammer Hill Ridge Road in Monticello on Friday morning. They say they had received a tip that a woman was in a well. She was dead when they arrived.

The fire department brought water to try and pump out the woman’s body. When that didn’t work someone repelled down the well to get her body.

Troopers began looking for Joseph A. Jones on Friday. He was considered armed and dangerous.

The investigation is ongoing and we’ll provide more details as they become available.
