Arson Investigation Man Arrested in Connection With Arson Has History of Arson

A man was arrested for trying to sell items stolen from a home destroyed by arson. The home was one of several that police are believed to be connected with a recent string of arsons.

John Roth, the 38-year-old man arrested, has more than 60 charges of theft, according to his criminal records.

He is also currently on parole for arson.

In 2013, he was charged and convicted in Jefferson County for Arson third degree and Theft.

Roth pleaded guilty to all the charges and was sentenced to five years in prison.

He was released 13 months into his sentence even though he was considered to be a high risk by the Department of Corrections.

Roth and a 17-year-old were arrested Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a Madison County home and setting it on fire.

Roth has not been charged with Arson, however, police in Jessamine, Garrard, Fayette, Scott and Madison Counties are investigating similar fires.

He will appear in court next week.
