A day after Independence Day celebrations, a Nelson County community gathered for a somber occasion.
Crystal Rogers, a Bardstown mother of five, was reported missing July 5, 2015. Sherry Ballard, Rogers’ mother, says it’s been a rough year for her family, “hard, emotional we’ve just been devastated.”
Tommy Ballard, Rogers’ father, found her car stranded on the Bluegrass Parkway shortly after her disappearance, “I found that her keys were in it her purse and phone were in the passenger seat and I knew she wasn’t in that car.”

Rogers’ boyfriend, Brooks Houck, was named the primary suspect. Later, Houck’s brother, Nick, was fired from the police department for interfering with the investigation.
One year later, her family is not any closer to finding Crystal.
“I figured I’d find her in four or five days,” Tommy said. “I never think it would be a year and we still don’t know where she’s at.”
Tuesday night, community members and loved ones said with a little prayer and a lot of hope Crystal Rogers will come back home.
“Empower the Ballard’s with prayer and support to regroup and get things going again build the momentum up in the case to try to find some answers,” said Mary Taylor, a family friend of the Ballard’s.
