A Charlotte man accused of sex crimes in Cabarrus County appeared in court Monday.
David Joseph Greenberg, 35, of Charlotte was charged with two felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and remains in Cabarrus County jail after his arraignment hearing Monday, July 11.
The case originated Sunday, July 3, when the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office received a report.
“We were contacted by their parents,” Lt. Van Shaw with the criminal investigations department said. “It’s two different victims. We were contacted by their parents and took a report and initiated the investigation.”
Greenberg was arrested Thursday, July 7.
A volunteer with Civil Air Patrol in Charlotte, investigators said Greenberg made contact with his alleged victims through that program. The alleged incidents themselves, however, occurred in Cabarrus County.
“He is affiliated with the Civil Air Patrol, and they conduct summer aviation-related camps,” Shaw said. “He came into contact with the victims at that particular camp. For us to be able to charge him, the indecent liberties did take place in Cabarrus County, and the victims reside in Cabarrus County.”
Shaw said the investigation continues and other charges may come down the pipe.
“There may in fact be other victims in other jurisdictions, so it’s a very fluid investigation,” he said. “Certainly if anyone has information, they’re encouraged to call the sheriff’s office.”
