Ward died on scene. Bennett was sent to the hospital. Neighbors say they were just steps from home when they were hit.

Askins returned to the scene at the urging of her boyfriend. She told police that she had asked if the couple was okay before driving off. According to her arrest citation, Askins told officers that she was in shock after striking the couple. She also admitted to taking a shot of moonshine, 10mg of Oxycodone, 15 mg Morphine and other prescription drugs.

The names of the couple have not been released.

Askins is lodged in the Whitley County jail.
