Wrongful Death Pulaski County Man Sentenced for Father’s Murder

The Somerset man who pleaded guilty to killing his own father was formally sentenced in court Monday.

Jedediah VanWormer pleaded guilty to murder, robbery and abuse of a corpse in a Pulaski County court Friday. The plea came a year after police found the body of Edward VanWormer buried under a slab of concrete in Somerset.

Edward’s sister spoke out in court about her brother’s kindness.

“He would’ve done anything for anybody. Everything he did, he did for his family,” Sharon Johnson told the courtroom.

VanWormer’s girlfriend, Amanda Braddock, is charged with complicity in connection with the murder.

VanWormer was sentenced to 30 years for murder, five years for unlawful taking, five years for abuse of a corpse and 5 years for being a repeat felony offender.

The sentence will be served consecutively.
