Fraud Investigation Fake GoFundMe for Trinity Gay

Lexington Police are warning people to not donate to a fake GoFundMe page using Trinity Gay’s name.

The GoFundMe Page called “TRINITY GAY GOODBYE PARTY” is fake, according to police.

On the page, it claims that the goal is to raise $8,000 for a farewell party for people to pay their respects.

After that page was deleted, another GoFundMe popped up claiming to be created by Tyson Gay. It has the same description as the original fake GoFundMe. It is believed that one is fake as well.

Police say it is in no way connected to the Gay family, it is not supported by the Gay family, and the Gay family has asked that nobody donate to it.

“We take fraud very seriously and have multiple layers of security in place to protect users. The platform is backed by the GoFundMe Guarantee, which means all users are protected by a refund policy. This campaign has been suspended and the donor has been refunded,” said GoFundMe spokesperson Bobby Whithorne.
