The mother of two children went missing after going on a jog last Wednesday afternoon, and family and friends are now convinced she likely was abducted, reports say.
The iPhone of Sherri Papini, 34, of Redding, Calif., was found by her husband about 1.5 miles east of Interstate 5 in Mountain Gate with the earphones still intact, along with strands of hair, NBC News reports.
Papini’s husband, Keith Papini, tracked his wife’s iPhone after he realized she wasn’t home when he returned from work and that she had not picked up their two children from daycare, which she usually did, according to the Los Angeles Times.
When Keith Papini could not locate his wife, he called authorities, who also searched the area but were unsuccessful.

Investigators with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office have been searching the area for days, using helicopters and dogs, but have not found Sherri Papini, the Redding Record Searchlight reports. Family members are turning to social media to bring attention to the case. A GoFundMe page also has been set up to help fund a search; it had raised more than $28,000 as of Monday night.
“Everybody who knows my wife knows that there’s no reason for her to leave … She was definitely taken against her will,” Keith Papini tells ABC News.
Family and friends believe Papini likely is no longer in the area, the Record reports. They are offering a $50,000 reward for her safe return. Papini is 5-foot-3, 100 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a pink running outfit when last seen.
“I think we exhausted the resources that we have out here to search for her,” Papini’s sister, Sheila Koester, tells the Record. “We are trying to reach out to national news and social media networks. … We feel that it’s moved to where she’s been taken from this area, and everyone in the nation needs to be looking.”
