Wrongful Death Suspect in Murder of Frankfort Woman Turns Himself In

Frankfort Police tell LEX 18 that the suspect in the shooting death of a woman has turned himself in.

Toma Washington was wanted in connection to the murder of Jaleesa Robinson Tuesday night. Police say Robinson called 911 and reported that she had been shot. She called dispatch fromĀ a gas station off Schenkel Lane just before 6 p.m. During a press conference, police told LEX 18 that she was shot at another location and drove for help.

Officers soon found her inside her SUV with several gunshot wounds and airlifted her to UK Hospital. She later died of her injuries.

Frankfort Police Chief Robert Warfel told LEX 18 that Washington is the father of one of Jaleesa’s children.

Several neighbors gathered near the Circle K while officers investigated and towed the victim’s car. Some expressed their surprise.

“As soon as I heard what happened, I was shocked,” said Davonte Jones.

“It’s never like this,” said David Muncie. “I don’t know what’s going on with Frankfort.”

Police have not given a motive for the shootings. According to court documents, Washington does have a lengthy criminal history including previous charges of manslaughter and domestic violence. Police could not confirm whether the domestic violence charges and an EPO were filed on behalf of Robinson against Washington.
