Two people are dead after a crash involving two SUV’s in Wolfe County.
According to investigators, 69-year-old Anthony Scott was headed south along KY 15 when he lost control of his Ford Explorer which was pulling a Yamaha ATV on a trailer. Scott lost control after crossing a bridge near Bethany. When crossing the bridge, deputies say the weight distribution may have shifted.
“When the vehicle continues to slide sideways, instead of being able to correct that vehicle you’ve got the weight of the side by side and the weight of the trailer pushing against the maneuverability of the vehicle,” said Deputy Michael Caudill.

Recent rain may have also played a factor.
“The roadway was wet, obviously causing the conditions, the vehicle to act differently on the roadway,” Caudill said.
The Ford Explorer reportedly slid into a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling north. Scott’s passenger, Judy Carpenter, also of Breathitt County, died a short time later.
“It’s a 55 mph speed limit through here and with the measurements, I don’t think speed was a factor,” Caudill said.
Among the debris on scene were broken bottles and a beer box. Deputies ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash.
