A young life was lost to gun violence on Wednesday night. The sixth in the Lexington area in as many months.
15 year-old Robert “Bobby” Durrum’s suspected killer was arrested on Thursday, and is only 16-years old.
Isaiah Parks and Bobby bonded over basketball and their love of designer shoes.
“He never caused any trouble, none whatsoever. He was a good kid. Just don’t see how that happened,” said Parks.
Parks says Durrum was the type of friend who was always there for you.

But on Wednesday night, he received texts from Durrum as Bobby was meeting someone, and he knew something was very wrong.
“He (Durrum) was like, ‘I just need to buy a gun off of you.’ And he was like, ‘I need it ASAP.’ And I was like why are you okay? Is someone messing with you? Is anything going on? And he’s like, ‘I’m straight man, just need to handle some business,;” said Parks.
Parks posted that last conversation on Facebook, but never heard back from Durrum.
Lexington police say Durrum and the 16 year-old he was meeting got into a fight, then shots were fired.
“I was actually in disbelief at first,” said Parks.
So was Durrum’s principal at Lafayette High School, who says the 15 year-old had perfect attendance, and was well-liked by his teachers and classmates.
He’ll be missed much like another Lafayette student killed just three months ago. That’s when Olympian Tyson Gay’s 15-year-old daughter, Trinity, was shot and killed near downtown Lexington.
The 16 year-old who was arrested in Durrum’s death is charged with murder, robbery and evidence tampering.
