Wrongful Death Man Pleads Not Guilty in Father-In-Law’s Murder

The man accused of shooting and killing his father-in-law and injuring his estranged wife and another woman pleaded not guilty Wednesday.

The shooting occurred early Tuesday morning on Huff Road, about five miles North of London.

When deputies got to the scene, Gordon Browning was already dead in the front yard of his home.  Authorities say his son-in-law, 36-year-old Michael Collier, is the one who shot and killed him.

Investigators tell LEX 18 a young child was inside of the Laurel County home during the deadly triple shooting. Investigators also found two women inside. Michael’s estranged wife, Jessica Collier and another woman, Amy Lyons, suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and remain in critical condition. The child inside was Michael and Jessica’s five-year-old son

Authorities say they are still searching for the motive in this case. Collier was arrested and charged with murder and two counts of evidence tampering. He appeared in a Laurel County courtroom Wednesday to answer to the charges. Collier’s bond has been set at $750,000.

Kathy Gail Middleton, 35, of Bowling Ridge Road in London, is charged with tampering with physical evidence. She also pleaded not guilty. Police say Middleton removed a weapon used in the shooting. Both suspects are being held at the Laurel County Detention Center.
