Drug Dog Sweep $140K Worth of Meth Seized in Montana Drug Bust

Two Mineral County Sheriff’s Office deputies who went through special narcotics training are credited for stopping a meth trafficking ring.

Mineral County Sheriff Tom Bauer says his deputies pulled over a vehicle for speeding late Monday night near De Borgia.

Bauer says when they pulled the two men over, they showed indicators of drug trafficking. The deputies called a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper K-9 to assist in the investigation.

After a search of the vehicle, authorities seized 20 pounds of meth, which has an estimated street value of $140,000.

The two suspects, Christian Ruiz and Hector Gonzalez, both of the Tri Cities area of Washington, are in custody on $100,000 after appearing in Mineral County Justice Court.

Sheriff Tom Bauer says his deputies did an outstanding job with the investigation.

“I need to praise my deputies for their outstanding work in doing this,” Bauer said. “They worked really hard to get better with narcotic stuff. That is one of the things I really wanted to focus on when I took over and they did a great job with that and I want to praise them. And of course the highway patrolman who brought his narcotics dog and his expertise into it as well.”

Sheriff Bauer says the two deputies who made the arrest have gone through additional training specifically for narcotic investigations.
