12 people, including two doctors were arrested by local, state and federal law enforcement authorities in a personal injury protection fraud investigation involving $23 million, according to police.

The fraud was uncovered during a 14-month insurance fraud federal probe, conducted by Cape police and the United States Secret Service, along with U.S. Attorney’s Office, IRS, State of Florida Department of Financial Services (Insurance Fraud Division), City of Miami Police Department, City of Hialeah Police Department and the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). Several insurance companies also were involved, including State Farm, Met Life, Sentry, Travelers, Allstate, Nationwide and Farmers Insurance Group, and were expected to attend the news conference.
