Identity Theft Troy Brower and Cathy Thompson

EL RENO – A Yukon man and woman who said they ran out of gas on Interstate 40 have been arrested on complaints of identity theft, forgery and possession of methamphetamine, the Canadian County Sheriff reports.

About 6:43 a.m. Tuesday deputies stopped to assist Troy Brower, 26, and Cathy Thompson, 35, on I-40 in El Reno.

Brower and Thompson said they were out of gas.

Brower did not have a driver’s license. The license plate on the vehicle had an expiration tab that had been pulled off of a stolen license plate, Sheriff Randall Edwards reports in a news release.

A dog detected the odor of illegal drugs. While searching the vehicle, counterfeit checks, check writing programs and check paper stock were found in the trunk of the vehicle.

Bower and Thompson were both taken to the Canadian County Sheriff’s office for questioning. When Thompson was searched at the Canadian County jail by a female corrections officer, methamphetamine, counterfeit checks and stolen credit cards were recovered from her bra.

Another woman’s identification card was also recovered from Thompson.

Investigators learned Thompson and Bower were also wanted in other cases involving counterfeit checks, fraud and identity theft at Remington Park and in Midwest City.

Canadian County Sheriff’s investigators, United States Secrete Service and Midwest City detectives interviewed Bower and Thompson.

The release claims Bowers and Thompson “admitted they had been producing and cashing counterfeit checks for years.”

A search warrant was obtained for their vehicle and a residence in Yukon. Counterfeit checks, counterfeit Social Security cards and other documents were recovered from the residence and vehicle, a news release states.

Thompson was jailed on complaints of possession of a illegal drugs, identity theft and forgery. Bower was charged with identity theft and forgery. Thompson is currently in the Canadian County jail being held on $20,000 bail. Bower is being held on $5,000 bail, the release states.
