SANTA CRUZ – Santa Cruz police reported an increase in online identity thefts with credit and debit cards on Saturday and Sunday.
Deputy Police Chief Rick Martinez said authorities are investigating whether the fraudulent transactions are related to a national breach of Global Payments earlier this month.

In that case, more than 1.5 million financial records were accessed illegally through the Atlanta-based payments processor. Visa and MasterCard customers were victimized.

Victims should include their bank account number, credit card number, fraud dates and times, address, name and phone number. Victims also should include the notes in the credit card statement that describe what was purchased.
