ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – The parents of a missing girl have fallen victim to a despicable act that has cost thousands of dollars and heartache.
The parents of Phoenix Coldon have been searching for a break in her case since she went missing December 18. In February, the family sent a private investigator to Texas to track down a possible lead that resulted as a hoax.

Phoenix’s family sent the private investigator to track a man who claimed online that she was his long lost daughter and that he knew where he was. St. Louis County police determined the tip was no good, but the family still pressed on with the investigator.
The family later learned the man really did not know anything about Phoenix or her possible whereabouts.
“The anxiety that was put upon by this gentleman and what he did and the monetary costs of what we had to do to find out that this was a hoax,” Lawrence Coldon, Phoenix’s father, said.
It is not the first time the family has endured such cruelty since their daughter went missing. They have received a phone call from someone pretending to be Phoenix and another call from a person screaming.
“Sometimes I go outside four, five o’clock in the morning and I just stand out there in the driveway just looking down the street,” Lawrence said. “I pray. Why can’t I see Phoenix come?”
Anyone with information in the case of missing Phoenix Coldon is urged to call CrimeStoppers. The Coldon family has also set up a fund to pay for private investigators. Donations can be made in Phoenix’s name at any Regions Bank.
