Private Detective Robber Strikes Again In Thornton

Police say a man was caught on camera robbing a Thornton’s gas station, but now they believe the same thief has struck again, for the second day in a row.

It happened at the Thornton’s on Versailles Road near Red Mile at about 4:20 Saturday morning. Police say a man came into the store, threatened the clerk with a knife and got away with cash.

Sources say it looks to be the same man who did the exact same thing just the day before, and also the same man who robbed a Speedway gas station on Friday as well.

Police are asking the public to take a look at the picture taken from surveillance video to help identify the person.

Police say these robberies are especially concerning because of the brazen, casual way the robber uses his knife.

Shoppers at the Thornton’s who come by at night are taking notice. “It’s scary. Because I work night shifts up at Homestead Nursing Center, so we come out and do our coffee run at 1:00 or 2:00 o’clock in the morning,” says Jocelyn Ross, a customer. “So yeah it’s scary. I’ll be more watchful when I do come out and I guess come out in groups instead of just one person going out for coffee, maybe two or three of us will come out.”

Police also say the suspect has been using a get-away car.
