A male juvenile from Visalia who was shot at Smith Mountain Cemetery Sunday morning while visiting a friend’s relative’s grave has succumbed to his wounds at Kaweah Delta Medical Center, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.

According to deputies, Barron and at least three of his friends from Orosi, two 18 year old men and one boy younger than 18, were visiting a grave site when they were approached by several people in a car, possibly a blue Impala. A fight broke out and the suspects shot the victim in the upper torso, deputies said.

No one else received significant injuries. The shooting appears to be gang related, deputies said.

Barron’s friends called 911 and took him by private car as far south as the Orchard Walk Shopping Center at Dinuba Boulevard and Riggins Avenue in Visalia where an ambulance picked him up in the parking lot in front of the Target department store, said Tulare County Sgt. Floyd Hager.

Deputies shut down two rows of parking spaces about nine parking spots deep for more than three hours while detectives interviewed the victim’s friends.

Hager said the victim was conscious when he was put into an ambulance in the Target parking lot. The boys in the victim’s car were not gang members and did not know the shooter, he said.

The shooting happened at shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday on Road 100 at Avenue 416 at Smith Mountain Cemetery, he said.

Barron succumbed to his injuries at 2:18 p.m., deputies report.
