A body found floating in the waters off of Montauk, N.Y. Saturday morning has been identified as local tugboat captain Brendan O’Leary, who went missing from a tugboat off the coast of Rhode Island on April 25.
O’Leary’s family was reportedly notified that his body was found about three miles off Montauk Point, according to Petty Officer Gary Rives, a Coast Guard spokesman.
Rives said Sector Southeast New England had been in charge of the search and recovery operation.

O’Leary, 48, of Marblehead, was the captain of a 91-foot tugboat towing a barge with 45,000 barrels of jet fuel to Boston. According to reports, on April 25 at about 2:30 p.m., his crew noticed that he was missing.
The boat was about nine miles off Rhode Island at the time.
The Coast Guard search 775 square miles until the afternoon of April 26, when the search was suspended.
The water was about 52 degrees where O’Leary went missing and he was not thought to be wearing a life jacket.
East Hampton Town Police Chief Ed Ecker said O’Leary was pulled out of the water on Saturday.
His body was spotted by a Montauk fishing boat. The Coast Guard and police detectives responded and helped bring the body back to shore.
The Suffolk County medical examiner’s office was also brought into the investigation.
Police did not respond for immediate comment.
