Drug Dog Sweep Christopher Brown Charged

STAMFORD — A shoddy parking job at Fairway Market led police dogs to discover several bags of heroin in the car of a 24-year-old city man Tuesday evening, police said.

Christopher Brown, of 40 Stillwater Ave., Stamford, was charged at 9:30 p.m. with several narcotics and motor vehicle offenses because of the poor parking attempt, according to Stamford police Sgt. Robert Shawinsky. He was released after posting $10,000 bail.

Brown came to the attention of police officers on patrol in the South End when they spotted a car taking up two handicapped parking spaces in the parking lot off Canal Street, police said. The car did not have a handicapped parking sticker, and when officers questioned the owner, later identified as Brown, they learned out he had a suspended drivers’ license.

Officers searched Brown in the parking lot and allegedly found six bags of marijuana on him. While searching the car, the officers also found a bag of crack cocaine on the floor in the back seat area, Shawinsky said.

The officers requested a drug-sniffing dog, and it located 19 bags of heroin under the center console arm rest, Shawinsky said.

Brown was charged with possession of narcotics, sale of certain illegal drugs, possession of a controlled substance, sale of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and improper use of a handicapped parking facility.

Brown is due in court June 12.
