Private Detective Women Burned in Car Fire

A car with possible hazardous materials inside caught fire near a busy Madison County road Wednesday night, sending one woman to UK Hospital with burns.

The dramatic scene unfolded around 8 p.m. just off the Eastern Bypass in Richmond.

Police and fire crews had part of South Killarney Lane shut down for about an hour, while they battled the blaze and tried to figure out what started such a bizarre fire.

“I didn’t have a clue what was happening,” said Cindy, a witness who was inside the Best Western nearby, when the victim ran in for help. “I looked up, saw a blond-headed woman come in. She was screaming bloody murder, ‘somebody help me!'”

Cindy got a closer look: “I noticed that on her shoulder that there was pieces of flesh just kind of peeling away.”

Police said the victim was inside the car, when for some reason, it caught fire, burning her all over.

“All of a sudden, she ran back out the door and started stripping her clothes off and was covered all over in burns on her arms and everything,” Cindy said.

Crews rushed the victim to UK Hospital, where the fire department told LEX 18, the woman was decontaminated after possible hazardous materials were found in the car. They said a passenger was also decontaminated as a precaution.

Investigators haven’t said what they believe led to the fire.

The victim’s name and condition have not been released.
