Private Detective Franklin County Woman Shot by Neighbor

A tense scene unfolded on Manley Leestown Road in Franklin County Thursday night. Just before 6:00 pm, a woman was shot in the head in her home, and when police arrived, the suspect, 38-year-old Mona Maupin, still had a gun and had taken off.

The Franklin County Sheriff says the victim is in critical but stable condition at UK Hospital. Meanwhile, the woman charged in the shooting is behind bars.

Sheriff Pat Melton says an argument between neighbors turned violent, and Mona Maupin allegedly fired shots into the next door home. A woman who neighbors say is a grandmother was shot in the head, and right next to her,

“There was a 5-year-old child in the residence that was shot at, right next to the victim,” says Sheriff Pat Melton of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Luckily that child wasn’t hit. Three other adults were apparently on the front porch of the house too. Because investigators say Maupin was still armed and dangerous when they got to the scene, they had to secure the victim’s home first before they could get medical triage to her.

A KSP Sergeant found Mona Maupin a short time later, hiding in the woods. Investigators say they recovered the weapon.

Maupin is booked in the Franklin County Regional Jail. Among her charges are one count of criminal intent to commit murder, assault first, and three counts of wanton endangerment.
