Arson Investigation KSP Looking For Vehicle in Connection to Jessamine Co. Fire

Firefighters responded to the scene of a house fire in Jessamine County and the M.O. matches previous fires in the area.

The fire at a home on 1701 Woods Road in Nicholasville was a two-alarm fire and the circumstances surrounding it are very similar to two house fires from Friday in Garrard County and another in Jessamine County.

Chief Michael Rupard tells LEX 18 that the fire originated in the basement and rose to the third floor doing significant damage in the process.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Though an investigation still needs to be conducted, it appears that burglary and arson are possibilities. Now authorities will have to search for a possible connection to the other homes victimized in the last 72 hours.

Just last week, a home on Pollys Bend in Lancaster was burglarized then set on fire. A few hours after that, the same thing happened to another home on Highbridge Road in Jessamine County.

State Police say the same person that started the fires in Lancaster and Highbridge Road, also started the fire on Woods Road.

KSP Troopers say to be on the lookout for a grey/silver Chevy Cobalt connected to the person of interest.

The Kentucky State Police is asking if anyone has seen anything suspicious that could be related to the fires, or if they have noticed the Cobalt in the area, to contact KSP Post 7 at 859-623-2404 or the Arson Task Force at 1-800-27ARSON (1-800-272-7766 FREE).  The Arson Task Force is offering up to a $1000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for starting any of the fires.

Wrongful Death Woman Dies After Clay County Shooting

Update: The victim in an early Saturday morning shooting in Clay County has died, according to the Fayette County coroner.

Alisha Tye, 35, died at UK Medical Center Sunday morning. Police arrested Sam Cornett, 52, over the weekend, in connection to his girlfriend’s shooting.

Neighbors on Skull Branch Road say it was around midnight when they heard the shooting. Seconds later, they saw Cornett walking away with his 2-year-old daughter.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“That guy comes outside and has the little girl by her hair and is cussing and just walks on up the holler,” said neighbor Brandon Brown.

That’s when Brown went inside his neighbor’s house to see Tye bleeding from a gunshot wound to her head.

“It’s got me pretty tore up. Something I wish I had never seen,” said Brown.

The homeowner says Cornett is her nephew, and they were trying to protect his girlfriend who was hiding from him.

“She was begging for me to help her, I couldn’t help her. God help me, I wish I could have helped her but I couldn’t,” said homeowner Amanda Ross.

The family of 5 says he kicked in the door and pointed a gun at each of them, threatening to shoot. They say he found Tye with their daughter in the back bedroom.

“He was shooting around her and she had the baby in her arms,” said Ross.

Witnesses say he shot his girlfriend, who was three months pregnant, in the head.

“She wouldn’t hurt nobody. She loved her baby and she loved that baby that she was carrying,” said Ross.

Even being family, the Ross’ say they hope Cornett never is released from jail.

“I hope he gets what’s coming to him for her to get justice. She needs justice done,” said Ross.
