Pedophile Tracking Palm Desert, CA Man Arrested in Sting

A Palm Desert, Calif., man who is accused of arranging to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex in Henderson is scheduled to appear in federal court later this month for a preliminary hearing.

Michael Steven Goldman, 58, was arrested Jan. 9 by Henderson Police following an undercover operation that ended at Sunset Station.

Goldman is facing charges of traveling to engage in unlawful sexual activity, coercion and enticement and transporting child pornography, according to a complaint filed Jan. 10 in Nevada’s U.S. District Court.

The complaint outlined the following alleged events that led to Goldman’s arrest:

On Jan. 4, Goldman began communicating with an undercover officer on a website with chatting abilities for those interested in deviant sexual behavior. The detective works for Henderson Police, investigates computer crimes and is a member of the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force.

In an “incest” chat room, Goldman, identified at the time only by his username “mcsterd,” asked the undercover officer if he had an interest in being sexually active with his daughter.

At that point, the undercover officer told Goldman they should communicate via email, so Goldman provided a Gmail address and confirmed his name was “Mickey.”

Through email, the undercover officer introduced himself as “Tom” and stated he had a promiscuous 13-year-old daughter named “Tanya.” As the conversation progressed, Goldman asked for a picture of the daughter.

When the undercover officer asked Goldman if he was interested in “CP” — code for child pornography — Goldman emailed a file containing three images of child pornography involving young girls.

The undercover officer offered to trade his daughter for Goldman’s collection of child pornography. Goldman agreed and said he could get together “anytime … soon.”

They continued conversing over email for several days, and Goldman made more inquiries about the teenage daughter, including her feelings about performing oral sex.

On Jan. 7, the undercover officer pretended to be the fictional 13-year-old and exchanged more emails with Goldman, who traveled to Las Vegas from California later that day.

Goldman and the undercover officer made arrangements to meet the morning of Jan. 9 at Sunset Station, where Goldman had purchased a room.

Goldman told the undercover officer, “Tanya is your gift … I feel honored that you both trust me to get to know each other … your trust will not be misused.”

The officer replied that he was glad Goldman could be a “teacher and mentor for her to be a sexual woman.”

When the two met at a Starbucks in the hotel, Goldman handed the undercover officer the promised thumb drive containing child pornography.

That’s when a team of plainclothes officers at the scene emerged and took Goldman into custody.

During interviews with detectives, Goldman would not admit that he was at the hotel to have sex with “Tanya.”

But when asked if a sexual encounter was possible if the two had gotten along, Goldman replied “maybe.” He also admitted to viewing and being sexually aroused by child pornography for the past year.

Goldman’s preliminary hearing has been delayed four times because of ongoing discussions for a resolution of the case, according to court documents. On March 8, U.S. Magistrate Judge George Foley approved the fourth continuance and reset the preliminary hearing for March 25.

Court records indicate Goldman remains in federal custody. He has retained defense attorneys Dayvid Figler and Kristina Wildeveld to represent him.
