Wrongful Death Breathitt County Woman Seeks Answers in Father’s Death

Who shot her father? A Breathitt county woman is asking that question as she finalizes funeral arrangements for 46-year-old Tommy Lee Smith.

Kentucky State Police confirmed Monday Smith had been shot to death, but so far, no suspects have been arrested.

The Breathitt County Coroner said Smith’s body was found in a camper in Highway 1110 Saturday morning in Altro with one gunshot to the head.

Three days after her father’s death, Mildred Johnson says she won’t have any closure until someone is behind bars.

“Today is my mom’s birthday and it is hard to set up there with my mom when I have been at this place for my father,” Johnson said.

Instead of celebrating,Johnson finalized the funeral arrangements for her father.

Police believe someone with a grudge against Smith might have been the one who pulled the trigger. But for his family, those words are hard for the family to swallow.

“Every time they tell me that I think it is impossible. I don’t see how anyone could be enemies with my dad. People have said it might have been stuff he was involved in, but even if he was involved with something in the past he doesn’t deserve to be murdered, my dad was a good person,” Johnson said.

With no suspects and so many questions left unanswered, it is hard for his daughter to come to terms with his death.

“My littlest one looks just like him and people tell me I look like him, so them growing, me knowing they lost someone who would always be there for them is going to be very hard,” Johnson said.
